Between sizes?
If you measure a 4.5 or a 5.5, choose the whole size above, so a 5 or a 6. If you measure a 6.5, 7.5, 8.5 or 9.5, choose the whole size below, so a 6, 7, 8 or 9.
How to measure
With a ring that already fits. Lay it on a ruler and measure the inside, edge to edge, at the widest point. That is the inside diameter.
With a strip of paper. Cut a strip about 5 mm wide. Wrap it around the base of the finger, snug but not tight, and mark where it overlaps. Measure the strip up to the mark. That is the inside circumference.
Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are at their largest. If your knuckle is wider than the base of the finger, measure the knuckle too and pick a size in between.
